This advertisement, where a man is looking for a woman he had seen in a restaurant Helsinki but lost without talking, was published on the Helsingin Sanomat, the largest publication in Finland on Sunday. Even though Helsingin Sanomat stated a that the message was left by a person, everyone in the marketing scene thought that it was an ad campaign start.
Now, the mystery seems to be solved. The email address at the end of the message where the man could be contacted, lostyouinhelsinki@gmail.com led the MuropakettiBBS computer community “detectives” to the hot trail. Someone tried to log in by the backdoor, where you get a questing when I’ve lost your password, you know, the mother’s maiden name or favorite pet question. This was in russian, further someone found out a forwarding address, checked the domain address with whois and apperently found out the name. This guy could be a prominent Phillips business manager.
So, it seems that there’s no fancy ARG advertising campaign behind the love ad. Nonetheless, Bolder has innovatively taken up the opportunity to gain some traffic inside the Finnish marketing scene by putting up a Google Adwords campaign with the restaurant name Mecca and lostyouinhelsinki words. Clever!
